ElectroniCast Forecasts Optical Fiber Amplifier Gain Block Consumption to Reach $2.54 Billion by 2006
January 14, 2003 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
San Mateo, Calif. -- ElectroniCast's "Optical Fiber Amplifier, Gain Block & Components Global Market Forecast Report" presents a detailed 10-year forecast and analysis of the consumption of optical fiber amplifiers (OFAs).
The forecast is segmented into the significant end applications on a regional basis, by amplifier types, optical fiber gain blocks and the various components which are used to assemble the gain blocks. Optical fiber gain blocks are used in the fabrication of the OFAs. The global consumption (use) of active optical gain blocks (AOGBs) will increase from a 2002 value of $1.18 billion to $2.45 billion in 2006, says the report. Optical fiber gain block consumption currently is dominated by 1550nm erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) gain blocks. Telecommunications applications leads in OFA use; however, private data communications, cable TV, military and test/measurement OFA use reportedly will provide unique opportunities for component manufacturers as well as the system equipment manufacturers.
Founded in 1981, ElectroniCast Corp. is a world leader in forecasting for the fiber optic, optoelectronic and photonic industries. For more information, visit www.electronicast.com.
