Electronica 2002 Visitors Forecast Industry Turnaround
December 23, 2002 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
Munich, Germany -- Electronica 2002, the world's largest electronics industry trade show, exceeded organizer's expectations by drawing more than 77,000 visitors, nearly half of whom forecast industry profits to improve in the future.
During the electronica 2002 Forum, "Expanding Horizons: Where is the Semiconductor Industry Off To?" industry experts shared varying opinions on keys to the industry's recovery. With the semiconductor industry expected to register flat to low positive growth rates for 2002, panelist Derek Lidow, CEO and president, iSuppli Corp., cited pricing as a critical turnaround factor. Joe Martin, chief financial officer, Fairchild Semiconductor International, said expansion into newer growing OEM markets could hold business potential, most notably in Southeast Asia and China.Electronica 2002 also focused on the latest industry trends through a series of new events including the Automotive Innovation User Forum, International Congress for 42-V PowerNet, the World of MEMS Forum and the Embedded Systems Conference, co-sponsored with the CMP electronics group.
Overall, 94 percent of visitors gave electronica an exceptional rating, noting its 3,000 exhibitors covered all electronic industries under one roof. Exhibitors also gave the show outstanding ratings - especially for establishing new business contacts and improving existing business ties.
Due to the success of electronica 2002, 83 percent of exhibitors intend to return to electronica 2004, scheduled for November 9 through 12, 2004, at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre.
Electronica is part of Global Electronics, Munich Trade Fairs International's network of electronics trade shows that take place around the world. For more information, visit www.global-electronics.net.
