October 14, 2002 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
Northbrook, Ill. -- IPC -- Association Connecting Electronics Industries(r) has released three new Training Certification programs on DVD, with such user-friendly features as random access/chapter selection, optional navigation and higher resolution for improved detail.
IPC Training Certification programs include everything a trainer needs to instruct, test and certify their operators.
The IPC-DVD-64C-K, Component Identification with Training Certification, explains the functions of active and passive electronics components; reviews the basic through-hole and surface mount assembly processes; and covers component part numbers, bill of materials, component reference designators, markings, orientation and polarity. In addition, the DVD describes and illustrates all of the common through-hole and surface mount component types; covers surface mount technology component types, leadless components and ball grid arrays; and briefly introduces resistor, capacitor and inductor values and tolerances. IPC-DVD-64C-K also includes a free copy of IPC-DRM-18F, Component Identification Desk Reference Manual
The IPC-DVD-49C, The Seven Sins of Hand Soldering with Training Certification, helps resolve improper soldering techniques, such as excess pressure, improper solder heat-bridge, wrong tip size, excessive temperature, improper use of flux, transfer soldering and unnecessary rework and repair. This winner of the U.S. International Film and Video Festival Award for Creative Excellence exposes each of these "sins" and presents the proper techniques.
The IPC-DVD-42/43C, Hand Soldering for Through-Hole Components with Training Certification, trains technicians on the entire hand soldering process. The DVD visually explains everything from proper workstation practices, ESD prevention, tool maintenance, soldering iron types, temperature selection and heat transfer principles to solder types, sizes and applications, wetting principles, soldering through-hole components onto printed circuit boards and solder joint acceptance requirements from IPC-A-610C, Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies, and J-STD-001C, Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies. The DVD is also available in a dual language English/Mandarin Chinese version as IPC-DVD-CH-42/43C.
