September 27, 2002 |Estimated reading time: 2 minutes
Nashua, N.H. -- At the MPM Forum 2002 conference, held September 11 through 12 in Northville, Mich., the current state and future of Manufacturing Process Management (MPM) wasdiscussed by executives and managers from EDS, Ford, General Motors and other major manufacturers, as well as senior executives from Tecnomatix Technologies Ltd., the sponsor of the MPM Forum series.
Attended by representatives from manufacturers throughout the U.S., the event featured opening remarks from H. Dave Chambliss, Tecnomatix vice president and general manager, North America. Chambliss introduced the basic themes of MPM Forum 2002: the changing challenges to global manufacturers and the MPM approach to meeting them. Harel Beit-On, Tecnomatix chairman and CEO, presented the keynote address, in which he reviewed the growing market acceptance of MPM over the past year.
Beit-On also spoke about major new product introductions from Tecnomatix, including the recently announced eMPower 6 MPM platform and the critical role played by MPM within the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) environment. He also detailed the important strategic and technology alliances Tecnomatix has formed with such industry leaders as EDS, Oracle, SAP, Siemens and others.
Chuck Grindstaff, president of PLM Products for EDS PLM Solutions, outlined the new alliance between EDS and Tecnomatix, and the benefits of the two companies' combined PLM-MPM offerings. EDS is incorporating the Tecnomatix eMPower suite of MPM applications into its E-factory portfolio. The Tecnomatix-EDS alliance has already been hailed by industry analysts as "a major event" that will have "a significant impact on the industry."
A highlight of the MPM Forum 2002 was the Executive Roundtable discussion, which featured Grindstaff; Beit-On; Clif Triplet, GM information officer; Joe Kaczmarek, GM director of Body Shop Systems; and James Toeniskoetter, president and COO of Tesco Engineering (a supplier for GM, Honda and DaimlerChrysler).
In a discussion of trends and opportunities in the PLM and MPM environment, Ed Miller, president of CIMdata, a global consulting and research firm focused on PLM and MPM, reviewed the evolution of the market and its growing focus on enterprise solutions.
Olivier Leteurtre, Tecnomatix executive vice president of sales and field operations, reviewed the status of MPM implementations at world-leading automotive manufacturers such as Ford and GM in the U.S.; BMW, Audi and Renault in Europe; and Hyundai/Kia, Mazda and Suzuki in Asia. Leteurtre detailed the benefits these manufacturers are realizing from their MPM deployments, including reduced time-to-market, increased throughput and revenue potential, increased production productivity, and decreased capital investment costs. The MPM Forum 2002 also included NAVUG Users Group sessions for Tecnomatix eMPower for Quality product users. Upcoming MPM events include the Japan MPM Forum and 10th Annual Users Conference (Tokyo, October 3 through 4) and the Europe MPM Conference (Frankfurt, Germany, October 20 through 22).
