Plessey announced today that it was awarded Company of the Year by the NMI, the Industry Trade Body for Electronic Systems in the UK & Ireland. The annual ceremony and gala dinner took place in London on Thursday 19th November and included over 350 guests from the electronic systems industry in the UK.
Dr. Derek Boyd, Chief Executive of the NMI, said: "We present awards to recognise the achievements and behaviours that are conducive to a healthy and vibrant electronics industry in the UK and Ireland. Our awards showcase excellence within the industry rewarding the innovation, expertise and ambition of businesses. The prestigious event is also a major social and networking event, and contributes to raise the profile of our industry in a world critically dependent on electronic systems. As such, Plessey is a well-deserved winner of our Company of the Year award."
Dr. Keith Strickland, Plessey's CTO, who was present at the event, said: "We are honoured to be recognised by the NMI with this award and grateful to the sponsors, IC Resources, for their support. We are entering a very exciting period with our new LED technology. Our products are now gaining market traction in one of the fastest growing technology markets, solid-state lighting. The expansion is highly significant not only for Plessey, but also for British high-tech manufacturing. We expect that our award-winning MaGIC GaN-on-Silicon technology with integrated electronics and optics will be soon be used around the world in a variety of lighting applications."
Plessey announced earlier this year that it is to carry out a major expansion of its LED manufacturing facility in Plymouth, England, after securing a £30 million facility from Deutsche Bank AG to finance the expansion.
